Mountain Tips
Meadows offers a wide range of terrains for all levels of skiers and snowboarders. The resort has 15% beginner terrain, 50% intermediate terrain, and 35% advanced terrain. The resort also has some of the best glade runs and canyons, making it an excellent destination for powder days.
When it comes to the runs and trails at Mt. Hood Meadows, there’s something for everyone. From the main base area, if you look to the left, you’ll find the learning area and parks. Further up, you’ll see the Cascade Express, which offers some great open areas where you can make your own lines. The view from the top is also breathtaking.
If you look dead center, you’ll see two lifts. The one on the left doesn’t run very often, and the Mt. Hood Express is the main lift, which can get congested, especially on weekends. To avoid the crowds, it’s best to get as far away from here as possible.
Heading to the right, you’ll find the Shooting Star Express, which leads to some fun but short runs. It’s primarily used to drop into the Heather canyon off to the right, which is steep and epic, so plan accordingly. The Heather Lift services the canyon.
If you want to enjoy some nice runs without too much traffic, the Hood River Express is always a good choice. Plus, it’s where the super secret local parking lot is located, but shh, don’t tell anyone.

Mt. Hood Meadows has some great parks, including a banked slalom, and a nice halfpipe. The park features cater to all levels of park riders, from beginner to expert. The parks are primarily behind the day lodge, uphill from the learning areas.

Unlike Timberline, Mt. Hood Meadows does not offer any lodging. However, there are several options for accommodation nearby, including Government Camp. The base area has some excellent patios to hang out on with gas fires to keep you warm, and the food options are typical ski resort choices.

Best Time to Visit
he best time to visit Mt. Hood Meadows is from mid-December to mid-April, when the snow is at its peak. The resort is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm. However, if you want to avoid the crowds, it’s best to visit on weekdays or arrive early on weekends. For a decent portion of Winter, Night Ski will be offered, elongating the time you can spend on hill. In April, they will typically go down to weekends only as the weather changes, typically closing late April to Early May.
Lift Tickets and Passes
Mt. Hood Meadows offers lift tickets and passes for all types of skiers and snowboarders. The resort offers single-day tickets, multi-day tickets, season passes, and night skiing passes. It’s best to purchase your tickets in advance to avoid the long lines at the resort. Meadows has been using a dynamic pricing model where the price of the tickets increase as more are sold, so buying on a peak day, day of, is not recommended. Meadows is also part of the Indy Pass, which allows members a few days each season to enjoy the resort.

My wife learned at Meadows and they have a great program. One criticism I have is that the beginner hill has a weird slope that funnels learners towards a fence. My personal recommendation for learning areas is Summit Ski Area, which is connected to Timberline. It is a beginner hill and truly only for beginners.
